Muggle was a funny old sheep. When she was very young she was inclined to eat the plants that grew along the riverside and while they were delicious they did not agree with Muggle at all. They made her sneeze and wheeze and made her eyes all rheumy.
As she grew older she was disinclined to go to the bother of sneezing and wheezing, but her eyes continued to be rheumy and bothersome. Her fellow sheep thought she was often sad, but that was not the case. Muggle was actually quite happy and carefree and gambolled about the hills and followed every sheepish trail she could find.
One day, Muggle sought the advice of a very wise character, one whoooooo always knew what to say at just he right time and in just the right way. Owl toowitted and towooooed and came up with a very sensible solution for Muggle.
Muggle had to go to the other side of the river and bathe her eyes, then keep them shut very tight for a day and a night and not try to open them once.
Muggle did as she was told and bathed her eyes and kept them shut very tight. She listened and waited. She could hear the other sheep about their sheepish business and wanted to play with them. She listened and waited and heard some other interesting goings-on but she kept her eyes shut fast. All day and all night Muggle was patient. At times she almost forgot and nearly opened her eyes. It was easy when she was sleeping but not at all easy when she was wide awake.
Muggle felt sad and left out while her eyes were getting better. She longed to run about and follow secret sheepish trails. A day can he soooooo long sometimes.
At last the time came for Muggle to open her eyes. There was a little gasp and the light came through, a little too bright to start, and then a little blurry, then all at once the hills and river and grass and trees and all the secret trippy-trappy trails came clearly into view.
What a wonderful day! What a wise old owl.
Muggle joined her friends and jumped just like all sheep do when they are happy or newly shorn or when they feel like being silly.
She smiled a sheepy smile and closed her eyes to a squint to remember what it was like, then opened them wide and played the game for some time until she tired of that and put her nose down to find a newish hidden trail.
As she went, Muggle decided to never go near the sweet grass that made her sneeze and wheeze and to always follow good advice - even if it was very hard and not so pleasant.
